If this is even made at all.. shirley this will just be the quest 2 tech.. but shrunk? smaller die.. etc.. and so made cheaper to produce.. a bit like the "slim" PS versions..

Seen suggestions it's going to be more a media player type approach, no controllers included (but I'm sure compatible if you want to get them) and uses hand tracking.

fair enough.. although I would have thought accurate hand tracking was the expensive bit.. well accurate enough to do away with controllers completely anyway..

Q2 already has very good hand tracking. And the controllers cost $150 new. Now of course, there's a profit there, but even so, drop the controllers from a normal q2 and it's probably a $200 headset quite easily. A redesign with updated parts probably doesn't push up the cost that much (especially if you're re-using parts that are already in the q3), and drop the controllers, I can see that sitting nicely.
