Quest 3 owners etc

Yup.
We had a stand up one from an arcade that closed down. Sold it something like 25 years ago now to a collector. Saw a working pair sell a couple of years back for £20k. Ouch. Got nohing even close to that. The early ones were powered an Amiga 3000. As an Amiga fan, it was cool to have. Worked fully too. Made so many people feel ill with it's lovely 15-20fps. ;)

Yeah I remember seeing them as a teen. Never tried it though. I did watch a YouTube documentary about them though ans remember the Amiga powering them.

They certainly weren't as good as Lawnmower man made them look lol.

So after mucking about with Air Link and the Oculus Diagnostic Tool and trying different refresh rates 72 / 90 on HL:A. Decided to try the Steam Link and it just worked perfectly set at 90 at Ultra settings on my 3080! Looks great, can't wait for the lens. Can the quality of the passthru camera been improved at all? I sense there is only such much you can get out of 5MP camera but gracious me it is blurry, even with my glasses on.

Last time I was speaking to Andy @RCM they had 1 of these working and were trying to get a second working...

Nah, best you can do is use passthrough in daylight or a brightly lit room.

Fair enough. Doubtful I'll actually find use with it outside of not stumbling in to stuff but just wanted to make sure I was not missing a trick with an a setting. Now I'm just twiddling my thumbs till the facial interface and lens arrive before I can get truly stuck in as I'm too paranoid I'll damage either my glasses or the headset lens with prolonged use. Highly impressed with it though and quite the experience being wireless. I can finally remove the telescopic poles and base stations hiding in the corners of this room!

That's a really cool thing that to have for so long. Did they even reach 15-20 fps? I think they only achieved those kinds of FPS on a really good day :p

If that was the last VR headset you have tried, I think you are going to be blown away by Quest 3. I am kind of jealous of you starting out, to experience that 'WOW' factor again. I still love VR but there are three experiences that I would love to have again for the first time.

The T-Rex running down the hall towards you in the Dream Deck Demo.
The Opening sequence in Robo Recall.
The Hanger in Elite Dangerous.

They were so awesome!!

if you can find a big enough play space it can really change how a game or experience feels. Having said that, I did walk into a floodlight stanchion whilst exploring the moon.
Other outdoor uses for the Q3 are as a 4K video camera that can record stereoscopic 3D

I did look for you at the end of the corridor.

Have to go pick up a Quest 3 128gb this weekend. With some vouchers that I'd forgotten about I've snagged one for less than the price of a Quest 3s. Was going to get a 3s, but noticed they had the 3 128gb available for collection from saturday.

My first VR headset since... Ummm... I had a Virtuality machine in the garage. :D Does that date me? I think it does.

Already looking at prescription lenses and games. Already bought I Expect you to Die. :D Think I'll grab HL Alyx and Skyrim too while I'm at it.

Don't forget to register it using a referral, free £23 store credit for you and the referrer.

Then I'd probably activate the 3 months (think it's 3) free meta plus trial, so you can try a load of games (oh and you should get Arkham Shadow free too).

Do updates happen automatically during sleep? Has there been an update ?

All my PCVR streaming issues have disappeared. Can run ultra settings, 120fps not stuttering with Alyx and other games. ;)

Yes, if you have your headset on it goes into sleep mode but will still update if they are available.

They did. Depends on what was going on though.

Already have a few things in my Steam library, Elite Dangerous, Keep talking and Nobody explodes, Everspace, Everspace 2, Hellblade, SPaZ2 amongst others. Will be looking at a few standalone things so they're added to the list. Thanks.

Oh that's useful, thanks. Will have to get a referral code once I've got the headset.

The sensorama vr machine ?
I'm not quite that old. ;) Occasionally I feel it...

You're gonna be in the same boat as me. I only received the headset yesterday and so many new bits and pieces to compliment it and tinker with. I also want to revisit ED and Talos and some other Steam related stuffs. The standalone Meta software is interesting stuff but certainly not up to the same fidelity as streaming from the PC. That said, cartoony-like games like walkabout golf perform wonderfully in the thing. There is also Black Friday 40% discount on certain games (like the golf game), so perfect time to get involved.

I'm not going to be as brazen as to offer a referral from me, but make sure you get one from the guys and use it prior to Meta store registration and setting up / activating the headset to get a £23 store credit.

As an aside(quest).
It has seemingly installed correctly but I'm unable to change any of the headset settings; complains that it is "unable to connect" when attempting to change anything. I've tried with the usb cable connected to the PC and enabling Wifi adb. Am I supposed to have something else running on the PC or something in order to make these types of changes? Confused.

Do these settings, if I do manage to change them affect everything on the headset, including standard Meta games or is it only for games installed via the Side Quest library.

I'm thinking you need to create a developers account on the PC and then activate it on the mobile device and enable it in the headset to get extra settings and allow sidequest to make changes via ADB.

I've done that, as far as I can tell. Created a developer account, enabled developer via the mobile app. I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling SQ and it still throws the same error "Unable to connect". What exactly is it trying to connect to exactly? I thought once SideQuest was installed, which it is, it was all self-contained? Ahh well. I'll leave it be for the time being as I'm just tinkering in general.

Have you installed the ADB drivers to the PC?
