Quest 3 owners etc

I
Still thinking of getting a battery pack. Does the headset still need charging as well as the battery pack?
On the Quest 2 I have a 20000 mAh battery at the back of a Kiwi strap, attached with a few velco straps, previous to that it was a 10000 mAh battery but it lost the charge quickly after a few years.

With the 20000 mAh its brilliant, the battery itself is usually on the third of four Led Battery charge indicators at end of day, and worrying about running out of power is a thing of the past.

It was a little heavy on the head at start, but I soon got used to it, works brilliantly.

From the QGO dev

Hi there!

Big news for you all!

QGO (Quest Games Optimizer) v14.0.0 introduces two powerful sharpening algorithms: FidelityFX CAS and Meta Quest Super Resolution (AKA Snapdragon Super Resolution) (you must be on firmware v204 of higher).

These don't just improve standalone VR games — they now work on PCVR games (VD, Steam Link, etc), and many video players (Skybox, YoutubeVR, 4XVR, PhotonXR, etc.) too.

Yes, you read that right. Half-Life: Alyx will look better with QGO and your videos will look better!

Both modes are OFF by default — choose the one that suits you best:

  • FidelityFX CAS — stronger sharpening, better color contrast and details, compatible with more video players
  • Meta Quest Super Resolution — smoother, more natural sharpening
These algorithms work alongside existing QGO profiles, operating independentlyIt makes the QGO profiles even better. HD+ + FidelityFX CAS => HD+++

You can turn this feature OFF and then back ON at any time while playing to see the difference right away.

And yes, Virtual Desktop has its own sharpness feature, but you can combine VD's and QGO's to get an even better result! Works also for Steam Link and PCVR in general.

So now we can say that QGO can improve PCVR (with the sharpening algorithms)!

I've also added this but more (see changelog https://anagan79.itch.io/quest-games-optimizer/devlog/360224/changelog):

Choose Color space — Choose between 9 different color space modes for more realistic or more vivid colors depending on your taste.

Old Meta Quest UI — Now persists across reboots when enabled.

Reminder: the previous update introduced extended FOV for screenshots and videos — a must-have for content creators!

Good app QGO, often updated, I tried this new sharpening thingy, the CAS Standard deffo sharpens VR rendered things but it introduces paradoxically some noticeable aliasing on edges of things, CAS Expert sharpens literally everything, not just the VR image but passthrough image too, it looks good but theres a kind of noise in the image and GPU usage goes up significantly. The Meta Quest Super Resolution is a more subtle sharpen but there are less side effects. After trying these earlier today I've added the latter sharpening technique to my app this afternoon with additional passthrough options.

I use my Q3 almost exclusively for PCVR, will I see any benefit from QGO? Seems there are a few hoops to jump through for minimal gains in this use case.

Just got back into my Quest 3 and applied the latest updates, but I'm noticing my battery life is now pretty bad? It used to be great, I never let it run down whilst in storage either. Could the update have done something?

The dev should've definitely called it the sharpening thingy to make it easier. ;)

There have been a few updates recently that have been giving some folks battery life and charging issues.

It will do this sharpening technique it has, but i think there are already pc based tools that do that.

Virtual Desktop has a very good sharpening feature. Games look amazing with it turned on. Very crisp.
I've been using this up to now, and I see Virtual Desktop also has the 'super resolution' feature that's just been added to QGO, so no need to bother with QGO I guess.

I got the Quest Game Optimizer app yesterday, took a while to get the adb thing set up, Seems to be a good app, any tips I'm on the Quest 2?

pick one.

;)

I'm glad I finished ITR2 a few weeks ago because it's just been impossible to use my headset since then due to these continued heatwaves! It's really a cold weather device imo.. Or those with AC..
