Quest for quiet! (advice please)

Hi guys,

I've recently been getting pretty tired of the noise coming from my Cosmos 1000 so I've swapped the main intake and exhaust fans with apaches and disabled the two roof exhausts and swapped out my old raptor and replaced it with a shiny new M4. Both changes have made a difference but the majority of the racket comes from the reference 4870 as soon as I start gaming. I'm planning on replacing that with a 7950/70 in a few months so that's less of an issue.

I suppose my main question is whether I would see any/substantial improvement by getting something else like an FT02, or am I just going to be wasting £200 looking for the unrealistic? Don't really want to go down the plastic everywhere 'gaming case' route but if there was a perfect choice I'd go for whatever. I've also got a massive desk so size isn't really an issue.

Apologies for the massive block of text but any input would be appreciated!

Hi welcome

You could get a case such as one of the Antec P series, those would help quite a bit, but more important is make sure when you buy the 79xx card its got a decent aftermarket cooler, unless you want to go down the watercooling route which can give you a truly quiet system but does tend to cost a wee bit more (read lots)

Other things which can help are a fan controller on any fans you are using, often a drop in speed can result in negligible temp differences but a lot of noise reduction

Or if its vibrations from HDDs causing the issues then the bungee mod is very good for this

I realise I've left some info out, the case fans are running off the pwm headers on the p8p67 pro and have setup custom profiles in the asus suite to try and get the best sound/performance ratio I can.

What's the build quality like on the P series? The only case I've spent any amount on is the cosmos so have little to compare it to with the exception of the old beige beauties! Also didn't really fancy going down the WC route just yet, although I suppose that might be the way I have to go eventually.

I had the original P180 and it was excellent, been through a few cases since, and barring my now current custom modded and watercooled Lian Li (in sig) it was prob best case all round, excellent quality, very good noise reduction, and decent cooling, I moved away from it when I got 2 high end and hot gfx cards which was a bit too much heat for it at the time, so got an Antec 1200 which cooled well but was too noisy, so I replaced all the fans with Noctuas which made that a lot better, then got fed up of the LED look, lol
I gather the newer ones P183 and P280 have better cooling now anyway
