Hi,

I've just been looking at the latest deals on OcUK & want to go for the 7600GT

I'm used to using a 6800GT 256MB but that broke leaving me a with ATI 9800 Pro :(

I just wondered how much more powerful the 7600GT is over the 6800GT? And is it worth it to get? (I'll be getting a DX10 card some time in the future... no money to wait for that though). Please let me know if this card is less powerful than the 6800GT

Thanks,
Craig.

Also, does this particular one come with Serious Sam 2 & Trackmania Nations special edition like it says on the Leadtek site?

--Edit--
Oh, and I'm guessing it'll be alright on my PSU? I currently run this on the PSU:
Akasa Ultra Quiet 460W ATX v2.0:

Intel Pentium 4 530 3.0GHZ Socket 775 1MB L2
Have run a 6800GT 256MB on it as well before it broke & it worked perfectly.
200GB Maxtor DMax+10 SATA
ASUS P5P800-SE
Corsair 512MB XMS3200 Pro DDR x2

--Edit--
One more thing, is the 7600GT better or is the 7600GS better?
(Edit) Just checked on the Leadtek website and the GS is quite a bit slower on the core & memory speed than the GT so I'll stick on the GT.

Thanks,
Craig.

i think it would be worth the upgrade yes, + you dont have an alternative mid range card to go at on agp.

What he means is that there's naff all else, so get the 7600GT.

It is quite a bit better than the 6800, I'd definitely go for it (Infact I'm even thinking of upgrading from my 6800GT to one)

yeah it would be a good AGP upgrade from youre 6800GT.
and that price is v. good considering
1) its only just out on AGP
2) its a port of the PCI-E version, with other cards (e.g 7800GS) they have charged a lot more than the PCI-E version

Only about a £20 difference isn't it?

OK, so the only questions at the moment are:
Will my PSU handle it?
Do I get the games listed on the Leadtek website with it? (Trackmania, Serious Sam 2)

--Edit--
Hmm, you say it's only just out on AGP? Could it be unreliable or bad? Or are there no worries there?

Thanks very much :)
Craig.

Not sure about games but your PSU will be more than enough :)

I'd say there are no worries with the AGP version, it will be EXACTLY the same as the PCI-E version, just with a different interface.

Right then!

Think I'm going to go for this :D

So am I right in saying that the 7600GT is a lot better than the 6800GT judging by the memory and core clock differences?

Just wanna make sure :)

Thanks,
Craig.

The 7600GT is somewhere between a 6800GT and a 7800GT. Its not a lot better than a 6800GT, like its not worth upgrading from a 6800GT to it. Good card tho.

If you're 6800Gt is borked then it's perfect surely? Even if performance isn't massively increased, it'll be a phenominal AGP card for the money - 6800GS is still around £40 more! And you get the 7 series features.

No brainer. I'm getting one to replace an ancient ti4200, which is moaning like a fat kid who dropped his ice cream. :D

OK, thanks for the help everyone :)

Will probably go for one ;)

--Edit--
Just been comparing the 6800GT against the 7600GT on the Leadtek website & the memory clock is over double the 6800GT memory clock & the core is almost double the 6800GT. Doesn't this make it quite a lot better? Or is it the pipes that matter more than the clock speeds?

Craig.

If you are referring to the 'This week only' offer, the clue was in the title :)

The list changed today and from the looks of things the 7600GT is no longer on offer, but even so the price is still good.

123.32 for the 7600GT at the moment, is that the normal price ?
