Question about Anno 1404

Myself and a friend are playing this online together via coop but we can't work out how you build any of the 'Venice' style buildings ?

We can build Occident and Orient buildings on the north and south islands but have no clue how to build any of the venice stuff and haven't come across any menus or anything that even mention ventian stuff as a possibility... but presumably it is possible hence why its called Anno 1404 Venice...

Anyone clued up as to how you actually create venice style islands ?

Not played it but I did look at this game a while ago and I presume you need the Venice dlc,expansion whatever it is

What do you mean by venice style buildings? It's been a while since I played it, but having a look on the wiki the expansion doesn't add much except in the way of building except beautification and it lists the Manorial palace. A quote from the Gamespot review says

The title for this expansion is a bit misleading. You won't be building any Venetian cities yourself, and with the exception of a few entirely new building types, the appearance of the cities you create is unchanged from the core game.
