Question about ASROCK B580 Challenger vs Steel Legend for video Encoding.

I want to get an ASROCK B580 when they come out as I really like my A580 and would like to use it mainly for video encoding using Handbrake first and foremost and maybe a bit for gaming but not a lot if any.

What I'm wondering is that the Intel B580 Founders Edition has a clock speed of 2670mhz and the ASROCK B580 Challenger has a 2740mhz and the ASROCK B580 Steel Legend has a 2800mhz clock speed.

What I don't know much about is does the clock speed affect video encoding speeds,I can purchase a Challenger or the Steel Legend for only 15 dollars more and I was just thinking of clock speeds helps even a little bit I would get that card.

For anyone who wants to reply to this thread please don't tell me to buy an Nvidia card as I don't want a card the sucks as much power as a 3060 or a 4070,I would like to stick with Intel as my A580 has been so far but like everyone else I'm after that little bit of extra speed.

It doesn't matter which one you buy. The power consumption on the B580 is so low that any cooler can sustain maximum boost clock so don't pay more for an OC. If anything do a little bit of research into the fans each card uses. I got a Sparkle B580 Titan OC and the fans on it is annoying as they have a certain mechanical noise to them which is especially annoying when the card goes on and off 0 RPM mode. That said, my pc is next to my ear and very silent already so I'm almost certain that any other placement and it would become a non issue.

@Phixsator With my A580 you can't hear the card run ever,the temp's on mine get to 50.5C and 58.5C at the max.

When I mentioned not wanting a video card that doesn't use a lot of power I just meant that I know a bunch of people will try and tell me not to buy an Intel B580 and get a 3060 or 4070Ti.

What my main question is if the jump from 2670mhz to 2800mhz have difference on encoding speed's,I don't much about what affect's encoding speeds and if I can get a card that offers about more fps while encoding video with Handbrake I'd like that because I do a lot of video encoding.

I think the Intel power consumption aren't quite accurate, something to do with total power of the PCI-E connector plus the PCI-E not being summed, it only measures one of them

Yes you are correct the B580 is 190 or 200 Watts,but I'm more concerned about is when you compare the B580 Challenger to the B580 Steel Legend,the Challenger has a clock speed of 2740mhz and the Steel Legend has a clock speed of 2800mhz.

What I'm wanting to know is if the clock speed affect's the time it takes to encode a video running a program such as Handbrake,the Intel Founders Edition card only has a 2670mhz clock speed.

I think you missed the point about what I wrote. It doesn't matter which one you buy if your concerned about clock speed having an impact on encoding speeds as they all boost to the same core mhz. Point being that even if encoding is affected by clock speed they will all yield the same result regardless of model. So buy the cheapest.

I don't think they all boost to the same clock speed because the Intel Founders Edition's clock speed is 2670mhz the Challenger 2740mhz and the Steel Legend 2800mhz.

The Challenger is an OC card meaning overclocked and the same with the Steel Legend that's why asking because they do have higher clocks speed such as the 2740mhz and 2800mhz which is faster then the stock Intel card.

I doubt the difference will be noticeable. Even if they were I doubt one will be in half the time

They do and they do it because the thermal headroom is massive even on the founders cards. Any review will show you that.

When you say the thremal headroom is massive do you mean that the Steel Legend will run a lot hotter,I know my A580 Challenger runs at 50.5C to 58.5C max and it's overclocked.

I'm not sure about Intel specifically, but normally the answer is no, because the encoding/decoding uses dedicated hardware.
