Question about banning on here

I was thinking today whilst showering myself.

Over Christmas I think it was one of the MODS did a thread entitled something along the lines of:
'Post in here and be banned'

So loads of us did as per normal when one enjoys the fun of the mighty Mods.
We of course were graced with a 24 hour holiday.

Now ok we were all banned. BUT and this is what I dont understand.

How could I not even get on to the forums to just look at them? I was under the impression, again whilst showering, that banned meant you cannot post but yet, somehow in the miracle of the internet. It wouldnt let me even view the forums.

My thinking is, because you are logged on to ocuk forums from a certain computer, the computer of course remembers my biscuits/cookies and therefore knows when I go onto the forums that i am Magic_x_uk

am i correct?

you can be banned by lots of things, you will have been banned by IP meaning from that computer you cannot access the forum at all.
 
You tried to log in or had auto login set.

Your account is banned from the forum = no forum access on that account.
 
Yes but one couldnt log out as when you went to ocuk forums, it was just a screen that said something like, you have been banned for the following reason or something along those lines.

I read it as he couldn't access it at all, obviously if he'd got here and had a page saying he couldn't access anything he was just still logged in.

You had the "remember be" box ticked, meaning you were instantly logged in when you came to the forum home page, clear cookies next time.

This is the reason you couldn't view the forum, just the way it is.

Clear the cache and delete the browsing history and go back to the forums.
 
Must have changed then, last time I was suspended I could browse the forums fine just couldn't post.

I do like the current infraction system tho its a great way to calm things down without inflaming a situation unnecessarily.
 
Cheers you have cleared it up for me.

& Viper2, there were dozens banned. NOT for doing anything wrong I might add, just for posting in a yearly fun thread some of the Mods do now and then.

And in the top right you have the option to log out.
 
You may be confusing 'suspended' with 'banned'. If I'm not mistaken, suspended members can still view the forum logged in but cannot post, whereas banned members cannot view the forum logged in.
 
It sounds like one of Gilly's drunken

'Post here and get banned' threads from a few years back... gramatically correct would read suspended not banned, but he was probably drunk at the time ;)

Biscuit clearance actions should fix.

it's just because you're logged on log out and you can see the forums fine.
