I am in the process of building my new build and have a quick question regarding the sound card positioning. I am building when it gets delivered on Monday, and was planning on waiting to see how it looks first, but maybe someone here has some insight.
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V PRO

Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge)

Graphics card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 3x OC

CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-011-NC
Sound card: something asus, will decide depending on what I can 'fit' in I suppose.
My first initial problem is that the GPU will take up one pci-e slot, leaving only one above it. What I am worried about here is the space left between the card and the CPU cooler (Noctua). Mainly, will anything fit in the slot between lol?
Also not sure about the graphics card being so close?
I was wondering what the black slot can be used for? I am getting ivy bridge so it should be active, but I'm wondering if it was only for tri-sli or if it would be possible to put a pci-e sound card in, without any problems to the graphics card (I.e reducing it to 8x / 4x). I'd try it but if I can't fit the pci-e card anywhere else would be a bit of a hassle returning it
My last option, besides pci-e extensions, is to just get a pci card, but then I may have to replace it in the future if I end with a motherboard without any pci slots, though I am considering it. Not to mention making sli problematic if I ever wanted to.
