Question about C1E/Speedstep

I'll be turning Speedstep on when I get my Q9550 just to let it rest when it's idle.

As I am overclocking, is there anything I need to do (e.g. manually set the CPU voltages to default) to ensure the PC doesn't crash when Speedstep is enabled?

I would have thought Speedstep might decrease the voltages a bit too much if overclocked and cause the PC to crash?

Or, should I be turning Speedstep off all together if I'm overclocking?

Thanks,
Craig.

I myself have speedstep turned off due to overclocking I can imagine speedstep being useful or safe for a non overclocked cpu, but when ramping up voltages to keep an OC stable speedstep may interfere with the OC and possibly cause crashes/reboots.

Im sure someone can confirm this. :)

Nope, SpeedSteep used to cause problems for overclocked CPUs when it first came out, but these days it is designed so it does not hamper custom clock and voltage settings.

Never knew that but when I read on other forums and here if its recommended or not and its generally been a no OR disabled while getting to your desired OC then enabling it.

That's what I always used to think, but someone made a very informative post about how it works on modern boards a while back. You should still only set it when you have stress-tested your overclock though.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Would these improvements only apply to newer boards, or to all boards with an up-to-date BIOS?

P35-DS4 rev 1.0 with latest BIOS here.

I think, if I've got the latest decent Speedstep, I'll overclock, do Prime etc., then turn Speedstep/C1E back on.
