I'm currently on ADSL24.

Since switching to the test socket and removing the faceplate I've gone from: (I'll only list downstream here...)

Sync Speed: 6176
Attenuation: 27
Noise Margin: 6

to

Sync Speed: 8128 (max?)
Attenuation: 25
Noise Margin: 11

My question is about this part:

I found that I have cable 3 connected. Before I go clipping it, can someone tell me what it actually is for? I'm pleased with the results already so if its not necessary I wont bother.

I've also now found out Be has just become available in my area so considering a switch. Are my current attenuation/noise readings at all indicative of speeds I can be achieving with an LLU service such as Be?

Cheers

the wire connected to number 3 is a ring wire which you dont need just make sure 2 and 5 are connected and snip anything else out.
