Well. I have gotten myself an Olympus C-740 (seeing as how the boss wont borrow me the minolta DSLR to go play with at weekends) just to go play with.

Perhaps not a great camera, but it does have 10x zoom and manual or auto settings so hopefully I can learn how to use the manual settings better.

I was wondering, as we are moving into the cold period of the year, what effect the cold would have on the cam.

I do have a Lowepro padded case, so whilst im wandering around it will be in there most of the time, hopefully feeling snug as a bug.

I kind have an inkling to go out and try find some interesting frosty pics.

How long would it be safe to have the camera out in those kinds of conditions, and what are the likely effects of cold weather on a camera.

The camera will be fine, just don't drop it in a puddle or snow (if we get any). Battery life might be a little less than usual but that's down to the battery chemistry rather than the camera.

Oh, and it's lend not borrow. ;)

Battery life will be the key issue imo. See if you can get some spares, and keep them tucked inside your clothing somewhere when you are out.

yeah your right it is, but i want to borrow it :P

dont care now (sour grapes) because my camera has a better magnification than his lol (he has a 28 - 210 range i have a 38-380 equiv range)

and yeah i know, that doesent make my camera any where near as good as the company one (which only I use anyway ) but it does give me a bit of a willy waving statistic to wind him up with (he doesent know the first thing about cameras- had an argument with him last week, the old camera he was using was a sony cybershot. I was taking a pic wiht it, and he kept telling me to turn the cybershot off, because that was only for close pictures. He wouldnt accept that what he was talking about was macro mode, even after detailed discription of what macro is, he just said "yes, thats the cybershot, it showes you a little flower picture" "no thats macro, cybershot is just the model range of the camera"

you can picture how it went lol

gotta love him though, as long as he pays my wages

with regards to batteries

at the moment i have just got some duracell in there. (only had the cam a couple of days, so not taken enough pics (bout 30 so far) to wear them out

what would you recomend?

is it better to just get regular rechargable AAs or shoudl i get some of the batteries I have seen on the net (dont knwo what they arew called) that are 2 batteries in 1. ?
