Question about connecting TV to computer.

:o And I'm thinking you’ve got the TV lol,

It will work out all okay mate I'm sure if it doesn’t report on here and no doubt you will get some help along the way.

You may want to get a card that has some HD features which will make those HD vids you have got come to life :D

Only basic cards I know but will leave the 6600 for dead displaying HD content.

I just wanted to get everything sorted before I got the TV. I don't evne have a DVD player yet so the compuer will be my main source of film watching for a while. (damn Oppo taking ages to send stuff from America)

Yeh I was thinking about getting a card like that. I'll look into 'em. Would save me a bit on a decent DVI-HDMI cable, and I'd have a decent (decent as in, better than this 6600 :o ) card along with it.

Thanks for your help mate.

edit: do you know if that 8500 comes with a HDMI-DVI adapter?

No problem :)

Just noticed as well you mentioned you comp only supports PCI? If so you will struggle to find a HD card mate I'm sure I’ve seen a thread on here saying some 8600's/8500’s series cards are coming to PCI? I’ll have a quick look :p

Yea the converter should come bundled in with the card.

Edit/ He's the link http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17768329&highlight=PCI

No no, my motherboard is a 965P DS3. It has 1 PCI-Ex16, 1 PCI-Ex1 and a few PCI slots.

Initially I was thinking about running two video cards -- my 6600 for the monitor and additional video card for the TV. Which is why I said I may need a PCI video card as I thought video cards can't be used with PCI-Ex1 slots.

Nevermind that though, I'm just going to replace this 6600 with a 2400xt most likely as it comes with a HDMI-DVI adapter.

Okay I get ya! this is what a 4.00am starts does to your mind :D

Another thing, what about stuff that is HDCP protected, wont that give a problem with a 6600 card?

Yes. The ATI 2000 series cards don't have this problem though. I'm reading an article on guru3D, about HD playback comparing and the 2600XT seems to be doing the best job so far. I may go for it, £60 though is quite a lot.

1360 x768 or 1368 x 768 will the res you be able to use as they are divided by 8.
connection and cables will depend on your tv some like mine can use conponent and dvi/vga (with adapter)and dvi/hdmi,
I found that nvidia will do the res you want our of the box but is dodgy at times i had a lot of trouble with certain connections to my tv some drivers worked and some were busted, i found with my tv that with nvidia it sets 1360x768 to 59hz and willnot work at 60hz.
Ati might need powerstrip but once set up was rock solid.

I see. Well do you think it's worth replacing the 6600? Or wait and see if the 6600 will do the job before replacing it? I hate waiting for delivery so I think I'm just going to order something heh.

I've just read a 2400 vs 2600 thread on another forum and it seems like the 2600XT is the only way to go. The 2400 series have driver problems that can only fixed by deleting all sorts of registry entries and stuff. Also the "Pro" versions of the cards (2400 and 2600) don't come the the DVI to HDMI adapter -- only the "XT" versions do.

I'm going to put a a wanted advert in the marketplace and see if i can get one for cheap.

Thanks guys.
