Question about Corsair DDR2

I'm looking to get another 2gb of ddr2 to bring me to 4gb total and i was just wondering if anyone knows if Corsair still make the 2x1GB kits that i currently have installed.

I can't find the original packaging for the ram at the moment, but here is what CPU-Z is telling me for each stick:

Module Size: 1024 MBytes
Max Bandwidth: PC2-6400 (400MHz)
Manufacturer: Corsair
Part Number: CM2X1024-6400
Week/Year: 23/06

Frequency: 400MHz
CAS# Latency: 5.0
RAS# to CAS#: 5
RAS# Precharge: 5
tRAS: 18
tRC: 22
Voltage: 1.8v

From looking on Corsairs website it looks like i must have bought a 'TWIN2X2048-6400' kit, which has the same latency etc.. but maybe i am wrong.

Would it be ok to track down one of these kits and simply add it to what i have, or will there be problems from manufactring changes since 2006 that might make them incompatible? (even if the basic specs are the same)

TIA for any help!

Thanks but that's a 2GB stick, i am ideally hoping to get another 2x1GB kit so all sticks will be the same capacity. The main thing i'm worried about is that since my ram is 4 years old, Corsair may have stopped making the exact kit i have, or they might have changed the chips and maybe they won't play well together.

I am probably being over cautious, but i'm wondering if anyone else has done the same thing, maybe Yellowbeard will see this and chime in.

Well this is certainly not a good time for ram it seems, i found somewhere that had the TWIN2X2048-6400 kits for £42.95 earlier, and when i went back just now they have upped the price to £52.95.... typical.

If i were to grab the 2GB single stick from here could i expect any stability issues, or is the only downside of mixing ram sizes the loss of dual channel (which i understand is not a huge hit)?

Sorry for so many questions, i just don't tend to upgrade ram at all unless i am building a new system.

There is almost no chance you'll find the same memory since that kit is so old. I wish I could give better news but I cannot guarantee anything you buy now will run with your current memory. It "probably" will but the only way to know for sure will be to install and test.

My suggestion is to buy a 2 x 2GB kit and try that. If they run together then you get 6GB. If not, you can still use the new kit alone and still have 4GB.

pitty there is no tradein swapme scheme what ever the word is with ram , cant they be recycled somehow? is there a reason for the prices being so high? pitty u couldnt say send ur old 2x1gb sticks in and get 1 nice new 2gb stick kinda a waist to buy a new 2x2gb kit and have the old ones just doing nothing

Ahh thanks a lot for clearing that up. That's what i was worried about with the kits currently being sold as TWIN2X2048-6400 - since 4 years in the tech world is a lifetime i figured you must have changed chips a few times by now.

Think i'll bite the bullet on a 4gb set then and sell the 2gb set if they don't play together.

Cheers.
