Hey :)

Been trying to search on google but the search results have been very irritating.

Just wondering if theres any 3D monitors/tv's that support 3D gaming for both PC's and consoles (both 360 and ps3)?

Thanks :)

Hi there,

3D gaming on the PC really depends on your graphics card. The recieved wisdom at the moment is that Nvidia is the better choice for 3D since they make the 3D drivers themselves and have full control over the system - while AMD rely on middleware from different companies to tie it all up. May I ask what graphics card your PC uses?

As for running 3D on consoles - you need a TV/monitor that has a HDMI 1.4 connection and supports 3D. All 3DTVs sold today should fit that spec without any trouble.

As for monitors, you need to be more careful since there are 3D monitors that support 3D via dual-link DVI. These monitors only work with nvidia 3D vision, don't work with console 3D but do support 3D 1080p@60Hz (in contrast HDMI 1.4 3D TVs and monitors only support 3D at 1080@24Hz or 720p@60Hz) - so for pure 3D gaming image quality these Dual link DVI 3D monitors often look better than HDMI 1.4 ones since they support full native 1080p resolution at a proper 60Hz when in 3D.

That said, if you want to run both consoles and PC in 3D through a single monitor - then a dual-link DVI 3D monitor like this won't work (since consoles can't output to dual link DVI and don't have the bandwidth to drive a 1080p@120Hz (60Hz per eye in 3D) signal), instead - you need to settle on a HDMI 1.4 120Hz monitor like this one or buy a 3DTV.

If you have a high end nvidia card, you can buy a 3D tv and use nvidias 3Dtv play software, then you can hook your xbox/ps3 to the tv (as long as it has 2 HDMI and 1 DVI or 3 HDMI slots) then you will be fine.

For example, Mitsubishi WD-65735 65-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV, i was reading a forum, guy had that tv hooked up to a ps3 and his pc. Not really sure a xbox360 has 3d support.

Thanks for the replies.

I currently have a HD5970 but am thinking about selling it and then buying a new card (still need to decide whether AMD or Nvidia but Ive got time to research that as im not planning on doing that until september earliest.)

I did look at that samsung but couldnt find anywhere if it had hdmi 1.4 or not. Would consoles (both XBOX and PS3) run fine or those samsungs due for release soon?

In terms of 3DTV's Id probably aim for one once they come down in price but I think Im looking for a monitor and that 23/27" samsungs seem to fit for what im looking for if it has HDMI 1.4.

Thanks again

Looking at this page the new samsung 120Hz monitors are indeed HDMI 1.4 - since 1.4 is required to run 3D over HDMI and many of these models don't have a DVI input, so will work fine with consoles in 3D, AMD HD3D and Nvidia 3DTV play.

If you are buying a new card for 3D gaming then I would go for an Nvidia card (at least GTX 570 level) and get 3DTV play - since their 3D support seems to be better at the moment.

As for 3DTVs, they are more expensive than 3D monitors - but to be honest not by too much and they are much bigger. For example, if you look around you can get the 1080p LG 32LW450U for just under £500. This is £100 more than the 23in Samsung monitor - but it is much bigger. This model uses passive 3D glasses - like the ones you get at the cinema.
