Question about dual cpus.

Hi

I'm not quite sure what you mean but you can get dual CPU AGP boards

Socket 939 doesn't support dual CPUs though. At the moment, if you want a dual CPU A64 based system then you'll need to get a Socket 940 setup with Opteron 2xx or 8xx CPUs

my understanding is that yes, the app should see it the same way. it works different at the hardware level but thats AMD/INTEL's problem... not a software one. I would assume that if you have an app that "supports dual core" it was probably originally coded for dual-cpu as dual-core is brand new and people have been using more than one cpu in a machine for yeeeears.

depends completely on how it was made and the program style. some stuff might be made so it can run on two cores at once. some stuff can be made so that it runs everything in many "threads" so that it can "scale" up to as many processors as required.

do you have a paticular program/type of program in mind? something like a media player would not benefit from running on more than one core. however, a game or photoshop etc.. could get a quite a benefit.

No just curiosity really, my board supports up to am3 cpus so I won't be changing the mobo for a few years time.

One last question, can a 940 mobo with 2 sockets support 2 dual core opterons or just single core ones, does it need to be specially made to support 2x2 cores and run 4 way?
