Is there any way to make Windows detect only one monitor when I turn off the second monitor in a dual monitor setup?

Currently, when I turn off my second monitor it goes blank but Windows 7 still acts like there's two monitors. E.g. If I move my mouse to the edge of my main screen it 'disappears' into the second, blank screen. I know I can fix this easily enough by going into display settings and selecting a one monitor setup, but that's a bit long-winded.

set up hot keys in Catalyst control centre.

1 for dual screen, 1 for single, when you turn the monitor off hit the hotkey for single screen.

Or, if you're on Windows 7 or newer, press Windows + P.

I use this to flick between my extended desktop and my Eyefinity group (by using "Extended" and "Duplicate" options)
