Hi,

Just a quick question, I was wondering if it is possible to have for example Chrome open on one monitor, and Microsoft word on the other, then have them both as active windows? So you can be typing on Word, then move the mouse to chrome and without needing to click anything, be able to scroll up and down the web page

Is that possible?

It works with two Windows of the same program, so if you have two word documents open or two Chrome windows, but is it possible with different programs?

Hope you can help :)

Not that I am aware of but iirc there is an option in Win7 to make windows active on mouse over but I think it may only be on mouse over the title bar. I have also heard that this sounds better than it is and ends up annoying people if you have loads of over lapping windows open and they all jump to the front as you move your mouse around.

edit: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the mouse easier to use

Thanks for that (Y)

That seems to be what I want, I just enabled it and it takes a second or so to make the window active but it is better than nothing

I tend to have my windows fully maximised anyway so hopefully it won't get annoying but we'll see

Thanks again :)

NP.

As with most things in Windows, looks like there is a reg key to change the delay...

In regedit look at....

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

ActiveWndTrkTimeout = 500

Looks like changing that value should do it. May need to log on/off for it to kick in.

That looks good. How do you find all this info? lol

I am doing some things at the moment but later when I can log on/off I will try that and report back (Y)

np, glad to help.

As for how I find these things? Working in IT for 17 years helps, that and some ninja googling. :D

The mouse over active thing I new about as they are rolling out Win7 at work and one of my managers who just had his done hates the quick snap feature when you hit the edge of the screen, so I looked up how to turn it off and saw this feature there as well.

As for the delay, I was 99% certain that would be in the registry (they nearly always are. there or a ini/cfg file if it is an app) it was just a question of finding it.

tbh it's just a matter of getting used to how these things work under the hood and then how to google the right set of keywords or phrase to find what you want. Chances are, what ever your issue, someone else has been there and done the hard work for you already.

Ahhh right, that's why then haha

I am about to try it now, so I will let you know what happens (Y)

Right,

I see why the delay was there now lol

I opened had chrome open earlier and opened AI suite, it opened in the middle of the screen, so as I moved from the task bar to the middle to get to AI suite, chrome became the active window, and it was impossible to get to AI suite without minimizing chrome, haha

I have put it to 250 now and we will see how it goes :)
