Question about Firefox 3

Hi,

I'm just wondering, if I installed Firefox 3 would I get automatic updates through all the beta releases to the full, stable release? Or would I need to download patches and updates myself when they get release?

Thanks,
Craig.

If you installed a beta you'd certainly continute to get updates for each beta. Whether you'd get the stable version on release, I'm not sure - YMMV.

Downloading patches would be daft though - you'd have to insert them into the source and build for yourself. You'd be better downloading either zipped builds or just reinstalling.

Normal Fx3 precaution here: if you do it, back up your profile, create a new one, and use that for Fx3 (Mozilla Support link with all sorts of profile manipulation help). It's essentially a one-way trip as far as your profile data is concerned.
Better waiting for Beta 4, which should ship by the middle of March, if you don't want to run nightlies.

Firefox 3 Beta 2 is supposed to be a beta in the true sense of the word with frequent lock ups and system crashes. I'm not sure if these are fixed in beta 3 but you might want to think twice before upgrading.

Used it on a portable version for a few days now, no problems yet.

Not really planning to overwrite my old Firefox 2 installation/profile with Firefox 3, I'm more wondering if I'll recieve patches through the auto updater (look like I will, thanks tolien).

Craig.

If your system's locking up or crashing, it's a problem with your machine rather than Firefox.
It's certainly buggy, but if any browser breaks your OS to that extent, there's something badly wrong with your OS...
