Question about fitting a CD changer...

Hey all.

Just a quick question.

A few months back my girlfriend bought a W reg Seat Ibiza. Nice little car. Anyway we've since decided that we'd like a CD player for it as it currently can only play tapes.

The main unit, however, is a custom one. It's all one part, with a screen and heating unit behind it. Basically we can't get a standard CD player in there.

There does seem to be the option of a CD changer though. There are buttons on the unit for selecting a CD changer so it would just mean connecting one up - and it "should" work.

From hunting around the car, we've found a 12-pin rectangular connector in the boot of the car. This appears to be a connection straight to the unit, designed for the CD changer.

Now, here's where the problem arises. We bought a Sony CD changer second hand which we were told would fit, but it now seems that it won't without running a second line the length of the car and connecting it up behind the main unit, as it won't fit the plug in the boot.

Basically we have 3 options.

a) Buy a "converter" so that we can attach the CD changer in the boot, connector is about £30-50.
b) Run a cable the length of the car, take the main unit off, and connect it.
c) Keep hunting for a CD changer that would connect to the line already in place.

Which option would people here go for? We don't really have a good knowledge of doing things like this, and we don't want to break the main unit. Would it be a difficult job to connect it all up?

Sorry for the long read.

Cheapest option would be to run the line the length of the car, I assume that would be more trouble than it's worth?

Best option IMO is to buy an mp3 player and one of those tape adapters.

Yes you end up with a wire hanging from the dash, but you can have 80GB of music (about 400 CDs) without needing to load stuff in the boot every few disks.
