Question about FTTP installation

I've just bought a house in an area that can get FTTP. I work from home so before I move in I want to get the internet up and running.

I've read that the engineer will install the FTTP cable in the same place as the existing copper phone line enters the building. I've found the "elephants foot" in the front of the house:

The problem is that this comes into the kitchen behind the washing machine. Assuming that I was even willing to have the ONT and my router behind the washing machine ('m not) there's no spare power socket for it anyway.

The phone socket is in the living room on the opposite side of the building to where the phone line comes in. There are no visible internal cables so I assume they are running inside the walls. Will the engineer install the ONT next to the existing phone socket in the living room, even if this means running cables along whatever path the existing phone like takes somehow?

There is nowhere at the front of the building where it would be suitable to install the ONT, and there's no power sockets unless I have it next to the kettle. Running it around the side of the building isn't an option either because it's a terraced house, so what would the engineer do in this situation? All my ISP can tell me is that the engineer will find a way which is pretty vague.

Usually it will but some have had great success in asking the Openreach installer to relocate it. The other option is running an Ethernet cable from the ONT to wherever you want your router.

Does the ONT have to be installed at ground level or could they run an external cable upstairs? There's just nowhere on the ground floor at the front with a suitable power socket for it.

When my FTTP was installed, he asked me where I wanted it. He ran the cabling via the street conduit and through the elephants foot, then routed it around the bottom of the house where I wanted entry, drilled a hole, installed the kit and cleaned up.

Exactly this - I opted to have it in the same place, since the master socket was already located in a good spot, but I was asked where I wanted it.

The first engineers that came to fit FTTP for me were only interested in installing it where they felt was easiest for them, after missing my original morning appointment time and going to a different job first because they assumed my install would be easy.

The second lot of engineers that ended up having to come out were more than happy to work with me on how i wanted it installed, and were baffled why the first lot hadn't just done what they ended up doing.

As long as you're asking for it somewhere reasonable most will be more than willing to work with you where you want it. I know they won't go into lofts though for safety reasons.

+1 to above - had fttp a long time, but they put it where I asked them to. Done loads for customers, and similar. More s problem typically is how long it takes to get installed (it's worth it though!).

Would have been able to tell you but had an installation aborted at the start of the month. Between placing the order and the installation date a queen bee decided to build a nest under the eaves, right by where the cable from the pole would attach to the house. Engineer took one look at it and said "nope".

Options were a) have the nest exterminated or b) wait until September or so when it would be abandoned naturally. I'm not THAT desperate for increased bandwidth to be the guy that has a bee's nest exterminated (and yes, I looked into removal but there was no one local who would relocate). Autumn it is!
