hi all

im looking at getting the new Samsung 22" monitor (the ones thats constantly out of stock lol)

basically i've never had a widescreen monitor before (currently have a rubbish small lcd)

do games etc play ok on the screens or do u have to start changing settings so that they display properly?

i mainly play Call of duty2 but also play some older games like age of empires,

will the picture get all stretched or will it be able to out put ok?

thanks for any help hope my question makes sense

most games do support widescreen resolution, a couple noticeable ones that don't, bf2142(i assume bf 2 aswell) you can force widescreen by adding a couple commands to the shortcut to make it start in res you want. i don't think i've had any issues with 1680x1050 for quite a while now. the odd game doesn't have the resolution available in game but most games have user pref .ini files somewhere around where you can just plug in the resolution you want anyway.

personally i always recommend people get the 20" screens aswell, 2" 's less but same resolution = slightly sharper picture. i don't see the point of the extra 2 inches as a 20" screen simply looks better. i say get a 20" or if you want to jump up to the next resolution then get a 24" with 1920x1200 res, which is also a good choice for high def content as it can fit the full resolution in where as 1680x1050 gets scaled down and doesn't get full effect aswell as issues with scaling not being done perfectly.

Get the new Samsung 22" OcUK is getting loads in soon, it's worth the wait. Most games that have been made since 2001 will have widescreen options. If not, you can force them all to run at the higher resolutions. COD2 supports widescreen excellently. I'll tell you now, once you've played widescreen Call of duty you wont go back smaller.

So far I've noticed a lot of games that don't support widescreen (more that don't than do, anyway), including a lot of recent ones. There are even recent games (e.g FEAR) that don't do 1280x1024, which is absolutely barmy.

Most games can be made to support widescreen resolutions through a hack though, by changing the resolution manually in a config file or something. Awkward, but it works.
