Question about HydrX additive

I got today the swiftech kid and am a bit confused as to how to prepare the liquid. It says in the instructions:Simply empty the concentrated coolant into a 1liter plastic bottle, and complete filling with distilled water. Your coolant is now ready. It goes on to say how much % i should use as a additive. My question is How do i know if what am planning to use its 5% or 10%? With the eye i can't tell much

I figured it would be easier if i get a syringe to get 10% out of the bottle.

The full bottle of Hydrx added should give 10%, half the bottle 5% etc.

Do i need to add half the bottle for 5%? i thought its 5% of the bottle into a 1liter of distilled water.

Ok thanks. I'll pour all of it in a 1L bottle. Do i need thermal interface pads for the apogee and gpu block or silicon will suffice?

It's my first watercooling and am nervous so to not screw it up:eek:

Thought the kit comes with some Arctic Ceramique? that will be better than any pad.

It does come with a white tube. I also bought a arctic silver 5 which is very expensive for its quantity. How much do i put on the cpu though?

On the other query you can re-use the liquid as long as there are no contaminants in it, but for the couple of quid cost of changing it's probably not worth the hastle.
It is worth changing the water after approx 6 months use anyway as the addatives loose their effectiveness over time.

I wanna try running the kit before placing in the case as am uncertain as to how to place the reservoir and radiator considering that they shouldnt be next to the pump. Would it be ok if i place the kit right next to my old pc and water cool it? as that case ain't big enough to accomodate it. This would be a testing and kinda getting me into the game of water cooling.

Hi Cheekykid,

Your at the stage I am at. Was trying to leak test my kit last night until the pump started leaking, realised I had missed putting the O-ring in it DOH!! Your also using the same case as me :D and yes its a good choice. I am also a first time watercooling noob lol. Now I havn't chosen a kit gone custom but I still assume you have to cut up all the tubing? So the best thing to do and what I am doing is to fit the CPU and GPU (if you have a GPU that is) and then get all the tubing and positioning of the reservoir sorted etc. Then just take the blocks of and put a towel on the center divider of ** case and put the blocks on that. Remove everything from your case apart from the watercooling stuff and then hotwire a PSU. Then just fill ** loop and test for 24hrs that way nothing is going to get damaged if there is a leak. Then when you know the loop is leak free just install everything into the case that way you don't have to empty the loop either just screw the blocks to ** mobo and graphics card.

If that made no sense let me know will take some pictures of how I did it.

Hi AFK_Matrix,

I see we are on the same boat :D. I would appreciate some pics
My problem is I can't find distilled water :o . Asda had only a dodgy one which i don't trust as it had methanol. I will buy this: http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/aura1/index.asp?function=CART&mode=UPDATE&deliverymethod=1
Hope its good to go. By the way how do i fit the tube in the pump? The tube seems too small

As for the swiftechs radiator 120cm fans i tested them last night and they do! make some noise even if not at full speed. Does it worth getting new fans? will i see any difference?

Asda & petrol stations near me sell de-ionised in white bottles with blue caps Tetraysol or something, labelled as battery or steam iron water. Halfrauds sell clear bottles as battery top-up water. About 50p a litre in Asda and £1 per litre bottle in garages and Halfrauds. Check the labels as some other brands will contain added chemical such as conditioners.

Distilled is available in Chemists, paid about £4.50 for 5 litres in Boots last time. Had to order it and collected next day as they don't stock it on the shelf, but other Chemists may stock it.

well I ordered 1x5liter for £16.50  (inc. P&P) from the link above . Even at pc shops they have it expensive because of the postage charge.

Jesus I hope you can cancel that as all you need to do is find a Major Boots store and ask in there, if they don't have it in stock ask them to order it in. I got mine that way and its £4.50 per 5 litres. It says purified water on the bottle but its exactly the same as distilled water.

EDIT - will try and do some pics tonight if i can find me camera. If the tubing is too small try putting it in some hot water for a few secs and then see if it fits.

Am cancelling it  , i only ordered it a moment or two ago.

Edit: I just canceled it :p

Is purified water the same as distilled? Am not a native speaker so am getting confused at times

Yeah i was worried when i saw it said purified water, but I asked on another forum and was told this will be perfectly fine. Also I am assuming your in the UK right? If you are then Boots will definetly have the water, if not go hunt around in a chemist, ask if they can order it in etc.

Yes am in the UK. i'll go to Boots soon to see what they got.
