Question about iTunes Purchases

Ok so I got an iPhone a few weeks ago so therefore also have iTunes installed on my PC. I've downloaded loads of free apps for it, but have also noticed a few albums/songs in the store that I quite fancy.

Question is, if I buy them, what file format do they come in? MP3? What bitrate etc?

I assume they will play on my iPhone, but will I be able to play them on my PC too? And if so would I have to use iTunes, because I'd not use it to play music.

Thanks.

They come in 128 and 256 Kbps AAC with the latter DRM free. Will play fine on your PC and iPhone, you could play them via iTunes, but VLC or Realplayer will play them too.

You can download apps for free again, once they have been purchased. Don't think this works for music though. You have to make sure you back it up/burn to cd.

I've just bought a song, what would happen if I would delete it? Can I download it again for free? Kinda like how Steam works for games?

If you phone them up they allow you to restore your purchases once, but they recommend you backup your purchase to optical discs or external storage.
