question about joomla

I'm currently using Logos query manager as a component for my joomla site to search a sql database and fetch the data. It's ok but not amazing.

Can anyone recommend any other extensions worth having a look at or other methods to allow me to do this?

for something as basic as a sql query, might be easiest to develop you own joomla components/modules/plugins?

Not sure of your level of expertise, but it's not that hard really...
