Question about laptop wirless networking

Hi,

I've got a Linksys WAG300N router, and a very old laptop (don't even know what it is) and the wireless range is very short, the router is downstairs, wireless doesn't work upstairs.

Is this down to the range on the router or laptop maybe? I expected it to atleast work anywhere in the same house.

Reason I'm asking is because I'm probably getting a new laptop and I want the wireless to work upstairs.

Almost definitely the laptop at fault. Have you tried your laptop at a mate's house, or got someone else to try a laptop at yours? I'd probably do both of them first, you might then get that perfect excuse to buy a shiny new laptop
