Question about laptop

Hi,
I just bought an Acer Aspire 5022 laptop.It has an AMD Turion 64 ML-30 (1.6ghz) processor and a X700 gfx card.
My question is this......I noticed using cpu-z that the speed was at 800hz and then occasionally going to 1.6.
Is this supposed to happen...is it some sort of power saving function when the lappy is idle.i am totally new to laptops so all help appreciated.
I went into the bios but couldnt find any way of setting the multiplier or cpu speed.

Yep. AMD have cool 'n' quiet technology.

Ramps down the multiplier on your CPU (reducing clock speed) so it uses less energy when idle.

(or something like that...)

As said above its an energy saving feature (& also helps keep heat in check).
Its working correctly by the looks of it.
