Can anyone explain why qualifying for the semi finals in the women's boxing guarantees a medal? In other sports the losing semi finalists compete again for bronze, do they not do this in boxing? Do both losing finalists get bronze? I don't understand why if so.

I would imagine it's done from a safety point of view.
I agree. If you have lost a boxing match, it's possible it was by KO, and so you would not be able to go again. Only fair way is to award the losing semi-finalist a bronze! I think it's a great system!
