Question about mist coat on kitchen ceiling

When our kitchen was done out it transpires that the ceiling never had a mist coat applied.

Cue 5 years later, it's a flaky mess. The plasterer I use has actually re-boarded the ceiling and skimmed it and it's now ready to paint.

I intend to do a 50/50 mist coat, then 2 (or 3 depending on how 2 looks) coats of proper kitchen matt emulsion. Question is this - does the mist coat need to be kitchen paint or will "normal" emulsion be ok?

The top coats will be done in proper kitchen paint, I just haven't bought it yet. Only reason I ask if I have loads of white emulsion left from decorating our dining room last month.

Cheers

Any colour Matt emulsion 40 water/60 paint is my mix, but most do 50/50 depend on the quality of the emulsion.

Kitchen paint is just a marketing gimmick, it's just thinned down eggshell. You'll never see a professional decorator using "kitchen paint" because it's nonsense.

Use reasonably good contract matt for the lot. Consistency of cream 1 coat, fill imperfections, spot prime filled areas then as many coats as required.

I just used trade matt emulsion from screwfix watered it down about 25-30% ish.
What an utter ballache painting onto fresh plaster was tho it just sucks in everything you throw at it lol.

2/3 coats and I'm now wondering if I actually need a coat of "proper" paint lol

Mist it with cheap trade emulsion, and finish with 2 coats of Leyland Acrylic Eggshell.

I had problems with flaky emulsion in my bathroom for several years, 2 coats of this and it's been fine ever since.

It's good for walls to - it's really durable and you can scrub it without it coming off.

Just done my whole downstairs, walls and ceilings using this method and the screwfix trade matt. 1 x mist coat, 2 x top coats using same paint has given a perfect finish
