Hello,

My question is the following, does lowering the multiplier stress any component in my system? I dropped the multiplier in my system from 9 --> 8 and i am thinking of dropping it further to maximize my FSB clock...

This is my system, rock stable and 24/7
Intel Quad Q6600 @ 3400 1.4v BIOS voltage
Gigabyte P35 DQ6 @ 425 FSB
Crucial Ballistix 1066 at stock
OCZ 850w PSU
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + 120mm fan

Well the motherboard will have to work a little harder if you raise the FSB. So you'll probably have to add a little more FSB and MCH voltage to compensate.

But no harm will be done.

I have read somewhere when i was doing my research that hacing lower multiplier raises an interanl frequency in the motherboard and which could lead to instability... is there any truth to this? Something with straps as well

Yip there's straps, but they won't lead to instability if you raise the chipset voltages if needed.

In theory 425x8 will be a tiny bit faster than 378x9, but you'll have to benchmark both settings as things like the different memory settings will have an effect.
