Question about my 6420 overclock

Hi all,

Just a quick question about my 3.3 overclock that I seem to be running stable on at the moment.

CPU-Z shows my ratio as 4:5 and I was wondering if this is an ok setting or if it means that the memory is running slower than it should be. I don't really get the cpu/memory ration thing so I don't know if it actually makes a diffrence to speeds or if it's just a setting.

I currently have the following bios settings:
FSB:414
MULTI:x8
SPD:2.50
Memory @ 1035 - 5-4-4-15 @2.2v

Thanks for any help given.

The ratio you are using means the RAM is running pretty fast. the rated speed is 667mhz, and you have it running at 1035mhz, which is a decent overclock.

The ratio you are using basically means, that if you were running 400 FSB, your ram would be running at 500fsb (1000 for dual channel).

I run my cpu/ram at a 1:1 ratio, my cpu is running at 2940mhz (420FSBx7) and my ram is running at 840mhz (420x2). If I used a 4:5 divider like you, my ram would run at 1050mhz, and not like it.

The dividers just give you flexibility to run your cpu and ram at different speeds should you need to. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for that - I think I get it now. So basically the ratio just allows diffrent combinations but the speed rating at the end of it is the important thing. I.E. although mine says 4:5 the fact I have the memory running at 1035 is the important part as the memory is running fast.

The ratio would be more important if I was trying to run the cpu faster than I have it now and the memory was holping me back?

Thanks again for the info

Yeah basically, if you wanted to up the FSB more, your memory might not handle being pushed up further. This is when you'd change the ratio to run 1:1
