question about my current CPU

Just checking with you guys I'm running Core2quad 2.5ghz, is there a point upgrading to the I5 2500k 3.3ghz or should I just wait till the new ones come out in 2012? I would not be able to overclock my system due to OEM packardbell motherboard or at least I think I can't slowly building new system but I don't mind waiting if I'm going to waist my money now.

To upgrade to that CPU you would have to upgrade your mobo, and prob RAM too, as its a different socket
Also you may have to upgrade your case, as a lot of OEM cases/mobos use non standard ATX layouts

Thanks for info, I know about the socket difference but what I'm trying to find out is it worth spending the money on I5 with motherboard and ram??? It feels like waist of money for me then upgrade again when the new CPU comes out, maybe I could get new mobo and ram but is the any on current market that will take the new CPU when it comes out? I can use my current CPU as it does the job.

Yes, if you get a gen3 compatible mobo, you would be able to drop an ivybridge chip in when theyre released, which would allow you to use the PCI-E 3.0 lanes
