My sister will be signing up for plusnet 40 meg+phone later this week
No working phone at the house but there is a bt socket in the hall but no power point
Other side of the door into the living room is a double power point

Will the BT engineer put the new phone/BB point(Master Socket) next to the power point or will I have to extend/run a longer modem cable?
Thanks
Trying to plan ahead:)

You can use a longer rj11 cable but it would need to be a good quality one otherwise speeds will suffer. Much better would be to have the master socket moved but if it's too far away they are unlikely to do that either. I somehow managed to convince the openreach engineer to extend the master socket into a pre-wired extension phone socket so my master socket is effectively moved now.

Power is only about 5 feet away but through wall and up over doorway.Maybe I should pre drill wall for him?as I would need a hole for extending cable anyway

Are Plusnet still doing Engineer assisted installs? If so the Engineer should use a data extension kit to allow the OR Modem and Plusnet Router in a more suitable location.

If not, then you're going to need to start drilling.

Well I thought as there is no active line that an engineer would have to call
Do she not require a VDSL type socket to be installed for fibre?

They will need to change at least the faceplate and possibly the whole box if that hasn't been done before. Does existing faceplate have just the phone socket on it?

Yes .just phone socket. But is in the hall with no power.

If there is a line, it's just not active that would usually be a remote activation at the exchange only. It all hinges on the type of a Fibre activation do. If it's still Engineer assisted you'll be fine. If it's a remote activation then you may struggle.

i had a similar situation and told the engineer to locate the socket where i wanted (different floor and near power). he had to call in another team to sort out a new incoming line (from a telegraph pole) but it was all covered under the standard install. would've taken minutes without the relocation but waiting for the other team took a few hours.

You can request that the master socket be relocated which the engineer might be willing to do (in this case it is possible considering the short length it has to be extended by), but it does depend on if the existing line is used as the engineer might just run the line off the second pair.

I will be having fibre installed soon, currently the socket appears to be upstairs i will be asking for it to be moved downstairs, not interested in extensions. I'm with BT and that gave me the option of an engineer install. The cable just needs running down the outside of the house and through the wall.

Looks like the deal she was after has ended now
Women!!! Waited to long lol.
She gonna have to wait for the next one :D
