Why does windows recognise them as some of computer info file and by default try to load the system information box when they are plain text files.

Yeah, was wondering that too
I think its because the .nfo extension is associated with the System Information box so Windows tries to open that file with that even though they're just text files. Maybe now its a trend for release groups to have text files as .nfo?

Maybe now? Newsgroups and other groups have been using .nfo files for years. Just set them to open with notepad or get a proper nfo viewer.

.nfo files are just .txt files with a .nfo extension. Just right-click the .nfo and choose Open With. Select Notepad from the list and check the box that says "Always open with this application". Now whenever you open a .nfo it will open in Notepad.

Optionally set your Notepad font to "Terminal" (or any fixed width font) and the more extravagant .nfo files will be rendered correctly.
