Question about old Samsung TFT

Hi, I've got an old 15" TFT I picked up off ebay a while back - the Samsung Syncmaster 570 B TFT. It's a PVA panel and it's quite an early consumer TFT. I'm stuggling to find out what the response time on it is, I've looked everywhere on the net, found the specs but never the response time.

The reason I'd like to know is I've got my eye on another TFT on ebay - 17", 25 ms response time and I'm worried it won't be quick enough for gaming.

However the 570B I've got is just fine for gaming, I was playing the Prey demo a few days ago and it wasn't a problem. Don't get me wrong, it does ghost, but as long as you don't look for it, then you don't see it. So if my 570 B was 25 ms or more, then I would know the TFT I'm considering buying would be quick enough too. Seems unlikely to me the 570B could be 16 ms or something like that with it being so old and a PVA panel.

I know it's a long shot but does anyone know the response time of the 570B?

Hi fish99,

The Samsung 570B is a 50ms screen according to full spec listed here. That sounds about right for the response time given it's age really, no way it will be 16ms, the fastest PVA panel (before overdrive) was 20ms.


side note: the specs for the 570B are funny, you really don't see vintage specs like that any more! 150:1 contrast ratio, 50ms response time, 110/120 viewing angles, 200 cd/m2 brightness!

A 25 ms PVA screen should be just fine then.

The 570B is an antique alright but the funny thing is it's a really nice screen, only cost me £15 too since it's got a minor fault (picture has wavy lines on it until it gets warmed up). Viewing angles in particular are really good.

Was going to go for a VP930 but I can't face paying £270 when I play games so little these days. I still dislike limited viewing angles though, so an old 17" PVA should be perfect and save me nearly £200.
