question about opacity and z index?

hi guys so i have used a j query plugin for an animated nav bar on mouseover
the bar has a dropdown effect reveling secoundry text and a small icon.
the container below has opacity set on it so when the menu drop is activated the opacity then covers the effect which is not what i want.

the nav bar is held in a seperate div if i gave it a zindex would that then allow the menue to drop infront of the opacity ?

i also have an annoying glitch somewere when i mouse over the final item in the nav menu instead of just shifting down the animation it makes the whole page drop down the 100 px any ideas on what i should be looking for.

any help mush appreaciated.

found a solution

hi guys

i found a solution for both my problems
i gave the nav bar div a z index of 2 and made the position absolute.

this fixed both issues hope it helps someone else.
