question about overclocking

i'v just ordered myself a 640mb gts and when i get it i want to oc it to bfg oc2 speeds (or maybe more)

my question is

if i use a program like ntune or riva is the card only overclocked while the app is running, or could i overclock then uninstall riva/ntune and the card would still be ocd
 
Rivatuner makes registry changes to overclock the card, you do not have to keep Rivatuner running or starting up every time (as long as you check 'apply overclocking at boot'

I do think that uninstalling sets the clocks to defualt though but I'm not too sure
