So I want to set up a downloading client to use a specific port and I just want to try and understand this

On my router under services it gives me these options

Name
Type
Start port
Finish port

So in my name I put my identifier which I assume makes no affect to anything you do.
Type I choose TCP/UDP
now with ports if I wanted to open say 6001 do I put it like this

A:
Start - 6001
Finish - 6001

or

B:
Start - 6000
Finish - 6002

I assume its example A:
Also, If I wanted to open a range of ports from say 6000 to 6010 I take it I just set it up as

Start - 6000
Finish - 6010

I know it seems very simple but when you are trying to get things working perfectly and your a little thick to networking it can end up being a long process.

Do I then go into my routers firewall option and then allow this port in both the inbound and outbound fields?

Do I also have to disable uPnP on the router??

if I leave uPnP on and I go to this port forwarding web page it says its not working but if I disable UPnP it does work.

Its not really pointless when your new to it and your still not getting results you are after.

Thanks, Appreciate the confirmation :)

UPnP is only really needed if you don't manually forward ports, which you are doing. It's also not as secure. Disabling it won't lead to any long-term harm.
