Question about powering 970 SLI

Hi guys

Got a couple of MSI 970s on the way, never had SLI before so want to check which way is best to power or if it even matters?

I have a Seasonic 860W platinum PSU

Can I have one splitter cable that has 2 6+2 ends going into both cards on the 8 pin inputs then another cable with 2 6+2 ends going into both 6 pin inputs?

Or is it better to have one cable per card so one cable with the 8 and the 6 being used?

I ask because the way the cable is made it will look neater if the cables are powering 2 cards because of how the splitter bends like an SLI bridge.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

that psu will power sli 970 easily

either way is fine. your psu has only one 12v rail. but sometimes the splitter doesn't reach that far to do it the first way you described (especially if your cards are separated by 3 slots)
and tbh, i'd be weary passing down 400w through one cable.
i'd rather go with the 2nd way you desecribed (which is what i've done in my build)

Ok cheers!

I will be sleeving the cables anyway so hopefully I can make a neat job. I think I'll just chop one of the +2 connectors off so it will be 8+6 per card.
