ok quick question im stuck with choosing ps3 or xbox... can i do the same for the xbox elite? plug my usb stick in transfer a avi/xvid file and play it on the xbox? only thing holding me back from the ps3 is the lack of games. thanks :P

I'd go and research the benefits of both if I were you, nobody here is going to be able to give you a decent answer.

If you're looking to just game and play online i'd probably lean towards the 360, as a big part of the PS3 is it's ability to play media and blu-ray disks.

I'd pick the one that you most of your friends have. 360 has some great games at the minute that can be had fairly cheaply (I'm not sure if the PS3 has cheap games as I don't own one) 360 has a bigger back catalogue of games but the PS3 is definitely better in the media departments than the 360.

Killzone 2 is the next big title out for PS3 and thats out at the end of the month.

This.

The real answer is buy both, but get the one you have most friends using first.

PS3 will do everything that you want it to and has a decent back catalogue of games although not as many as the 360... are you planning on buying a lot of these older games as looking at the size of the back catalogue of each system is only really relevant if you plan on playing lots of them?

360 is widely considered to be better for online play but you have to pay an annual subscription to do so. PS3's online play is free and it does the job fine, but it's not as polished and doesn't have as many features of 360's Live.

I would look at future releases for both consoles (there's some threads on here somewhere!) to see which up and coming titles take your fancy more. Personally there's a lot more coming out, which float my boat, for the PS3 than 360, but it's personal preference. Although having said that I did buy a preowned 360 arcade yesterday for the GTAIV DLC and to play Crackdown again.

Controller ergonomics is a deciding factor for some people and a lot of guys on here prefer the 360. My preference is for the DualShock but if the 360 controller had the left analogue stick in the correct place :p and had the DS's D-pad then it would be close to perfection for me.

Then of course you have the added benefit of the PS3 being a BD player - do you watch many films?
