Question about PSUs -do you have to have a mobo?

i want to stack some hard disks externally with a spare psu i have. i thought this would be fine, but is there something that has to kick start it into working?

i mean a mobo wont do a thing till you short that jumper to get it going, do PSUs have something similar?

ahh, that actually doesnt look to hard. figured there was something that i would need to do tho

reason i want to do this, is to stack a load of hard drives externally with ide2usb adapters and run them off a dedicated PSU. easier and tidier than a load of external cases
