Hello Peeps,
Just wondering what my best option for XFire with a ref and a non ref will be.I have an an ASUS Z68-V gen 3 mobo so the spacing isnt too bad but which one should get top slot do y`all think? my AX1200`s fan is facing downward in a Corsair 650d case with clear front to back airflow and I am going to be putting an extra 200mm fan on the side panel.Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Sounds like a plan to me :) I noticed there that you are running Sli? If they are not under water what they like temps wise as I would not mind 2 Lightnings but I am a bit concerned that the heat coming from the side of them would overheat the top one?

I ran a reference EVGA 680 at the top (no bendy SLI bridge) and a MSI Lightning at the bottom and the top card got hot very quickly. After I rechecked the box the Lightning came in and found the bendy SLI bridge (Doh!!!) and switched them over, the top card was a good 15C cooler and the Lightning was 5C hotter (the Lightning has far superior cooling than a reference).

The Idea is the bottom card exhausts the heat (less heat rising) and the top card can do what it wants (if that makes sense?)

Yes it does. That was what I figured but I would rather someone more knowledgeable than myself on these matters confirmed it.Job sorted then-I`ll order a lightning now :D Thanks

One more question-I have my eye on the lightning boost edition here on OCUK.I have flashed my ref bios so its at 1050mhz (i think that is right) so will that mean the lightning will run at 1050mhz also? If so would I be better off just getting the non boost version to save maybe £20?

In fact will I be better off just buying the cheapest 7970? I really like the look of the lightning though but I am starting to think it could just be overkill.Oh.I am running a 27" 1400p monitor and I like to turn EVERYTHING all the way up....I don`t mean is Xfire 7970s overkill :D
