I need to replace our external SCSI LTO4 drive and it looks like we're going to get an external SAS LTO5 drive as a replacement.

DAFT QUESTION BIT

I'll need a SAS interface card and an external SAS cable, yes? If so, could you recommend one?

If you're a Dell shop, the Dell eSAS cards are OK. I'd probably just stick with your server vendor's cards for ease of support.

Why LTO5 though? We've just moved to LTO6 because it wasn't any more expensive than LTO5 (though the media is a bit more pricey). I probably wouldn't jump from 4 to 5 at this point.

Thanks for the info. I've found a Quantum bundle that includes the HBA. Just need to check it 6Gbs.

The LTO6 quotes were quite a bit dearer for us, around 2-300 for the device and quite a bit on the media which when multiplied by 20 adds a fair bit to the price, about a grand I think it was.
