Question about Sky wiring...

Does anyone know if there is a limit for how long the wires coming from your satellite dish to your TV can be?

We have a dish on the side of our house but its on the opposite corner of the room to the TV. The wires that currently come off it are too short to reach and we REALLY don't want to move the TV.

At the moment we don't have sky, just terrestrial, and we are running an extension from the same place that the sky wires come in, then under the carpets round by the skirting boards to the far corner of the room.

Can you buy extension for satellite wires? How long can it be without losing connection/quality?

Cheers,

G

I bought extension cables for my old house, moved the TV about 5 metres and had no problems. There was a slight loss of signal in the setup menu, maybe 1 bar, but I didn't suffer from any artifacts. I bought the extension cables from a local electronics shop, but you could probably get them from somewhere like B&Q, somewhere like Currys or from the auction site.

Ours is 25m and is in two parts and works fine

You can buy the wire cheaper from local electronic shops which would be cheaper than B&Q etc and they are REALLY easy to make.

Its not likely to be an issue unless the cables are really long, and if that happens you can get amplifiers that fit in the cable close to the LNB
