Question about software/game backups?

Is it legal to make a backup of a game by copying all the installed files on a pc to a dvd-rom disk since this does not bypass copy protection?

But if you didnt have the original disk you wouldnt be able to load the game?

It wouldn't work when you put it on another PC, and as to you question. by-passing the copy protecting is not what the law is about. Copying itself is illegal.
