Hi Guys

Looking into getting a 780 soon (new build so not upgrading or anything so I have no need to wait for anything better...)

First, if I go for the stock reference card would it just be a case of buying the cheapest or is there a particular reason so not go with a certain one such as rubbish warranty? I would like to go EVGA but its like £50 more.

Secondly, when can we expect a drop in price? I'm not after a massive drop as I don't think this will happen but now the initial stock has sold and a lot are out of stock in certain places can we expect even a minute drop now the initial buying frenzy is out the way?

Regarding the EVGA Superclock one, is their any benefit of this one over the stock card if you plan to overclock anyway? Would both cards clock to the same speeds, base and boost?

Thanks guys

They are all basically the same reference cards, so choose based on price/warranty. EVGA have a good warranty reputation, but I think Gigabyte's is also VERY good (UK-based and ~3 day turn-around I believe), and they normally come out cheaper.

KFA2 and gainward are also good choices, as they work closely with ocuk for returns, and have a similar turnaround in the UK as gigabyte.

additionally, gainward allow you to change the cooling on your card and still honour the warranty (if bought here) there were details of the gainward support offered in a post by Gibbo a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can find a link when I have a second.

The prices are slowly coming down will probably settle around £480 - £500 over the next few weeks / months until AMD get their new cards out of the stable..

At £550 launch price the 780 is crazy expensive, remember the uproar the 7970 caused launching at £400 - £450, £550 is bonkers tbh for a single card..

It's a nice card for sure, just way to pricey.. As always prices will come down, it's just a waiting game.. With the way pricing is these days it makes sense to buy cards a generation behind, i.e 6 months+ after launch, that way you avoid price hiking and driver support will be far better when you get your card, plus all the custom cards will have launched as well, gives you better choice..

Personally with the extreme high prices Nvidia have as well as the current driver issues I would steer well clear for a few months, by then prices and drivers will be much better..

Hi,

EVGA do also allow to change the cooler, we do also offer warranty upgrades so you can purchase up to 5 or 10 years on top on our 3 year basic warranty if you want to and we do offer direct customer support. In EU you can reach us Mo-Fr 9-18 o'clock and 24/7 US support if it is needed.

FYI
yesterday released a new Beta driver, if you had issues with the latest WHQL one I would suggest to take a look at the new one. You can download it from eu.evga.com and ofcourse the NVIDIA sites nvidia.com or geforce.com

Cheers

The Ref are all the same, as said all ready buy one with good warranty !

I'd also wait until they have a desent driver for the GTX780, the 320.xx are know to have issues with some people's PC's & games (like BF3, Metro LL & Skyrim). Not every one has the problems but its a loto ! By doing this you can also wait to see the price drop's...

The OC'ed one's are just pre clocked & you can OC the standerd Ref the same with little problems...
