Hi everyone. Just a quick question. My home hub 3 has 4 'Ethernet' ports and a 'gigabit' port on the back. Is the gigabit port the one I connect any powerline adaptors or can I use it to connect a network devise (such as a NATS or another computer)? Thanks!

I am sorry. I did not understand. When you say 'anything' do you mean I can connect anything to anywhere, or that the gigabit will work with anything/ I guess, what I do not get is why is this labeled differently? Why do I have 4 ethernet ports and a gigabit port, if they are all the same? Or are the not the same?

you connect a 1gb capable device to it - basically the device that you want to have quickest access (if capable) will be given priority over other devices when connected to the gb connector.

It can be anything you want. Realistically having one gigabit port is pointless. The gigabit port allows a connection at 10/100/1000Mbit, the other ports are 10/100Mbit only.

Since the HH3 supports Wifi N (theoretically 300Mbit) then you'd get faster transfer rates between Wifi N devices and the device plugged into the gigabit port. It's nothing to do with priorities at all.

As I say though, the reality of it is that it makes no difference. Plug whatever device you want into any port you want. If the thing had 2 or more gigabit ports then there'd be a point but there isn't. Your PC will be fine in that port :)

My media device supports 1gb connection, my other devices don't. Therefore i have obvioulsy connected my media device to the gb port - so not pointless at all.

But, yes, you can plug whatever device you want into there so your PC will be fine.

I think he meant it's pointless in the sense that although one device has 1gb connection, if it's transferring data to another device that is on 100mb connection then you won't see any improvement in speed.

I have a gigabit switch plugged into mine, and then all my devices are on the switch. Single gigabit port on the HH3 is daft.
