Hi.

can someone answer a query I have regarding the Ipad please.

If I bought a iPad and that was the only form of computer in my house. How would I be able to put photo's onto it from my digital camera etc?

Does it have a memory card slot? I have no knowledge of apple products so would be interested.

thank you

You can't and no you would need a computer in order to transfer the photos first, once they're on your itunes/icloud account then you can remove the computer

How about uploading them from your moby to Facebook then downloading them off there onto the ipad ?

Just guessing here I don't own an ipad.

Worms can All over the place. :p

Surely you must be able to do what I said above.

Well to be that seems silly. Surely it would make sense to have a memory card slot on the iPad so you can add photos.

It makes sense, but then you could expand the storage and thus why would you spend more money on the 64GB iPad when you can buy 100GB SD cards?

4T5 yes if you were to take photos from your mobile and put on facebook.

BUT

not everyone uses facebook. Also most people prefer to use a good digital camera instead of there phone for photos. So that idea is already no good.
But thanks anyhow.

I guess it boils down to keeping the device as compact as they can. That and selling accessories. It is notable that the Samsung tablets also lack this feature. But it would probably be microSD at best anyway.

The camera connection kit does work though so you can transfer them direct to it, it just costs a bit extra for the option.

The bumph for the iPad camera connector from the Apple site is:

"With the iPad Camera Connection Kit, it's incredibly easy to download photos and videos from your digital camera to your iPad so you can view them on the gorgeous iPad display and share them with family and friends.

The kit includes two connectors, each with a different interface:

The Camera Connector features a USB interface. Just plug it into the dock connector port on your iPad, then attach your digital camera or iPhone using a USB cable (not included). iPhone 3G is not supported.
Use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from your camera's SD card. Connect it to your iPad, then insert your digital camera's SD card into the slot.
After you make the connection, your iPad automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose which photos and videos to import, then organizes them into albums. When you sync iPad to your PC or Mac, the photos and videos on your iPad are added to your computer's photo library.

iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4.
"

You can also use Dropbox and other cloud storage systems to transfer files to it (although this doesn't help if you've no computer! But you can always misappropriate work/school PC's).

I do have a computer. it was more a hypothetical question

Apple are trying to target just that market with the iPad, old Auntie Jean who hasn't got a PC, isn't interested in getting a PC but is tech savvy enough to own and use a digi camera (that description covers a big % of the population).

For that reason, its geared up for that scenario and can be bought, set up and used happily as a standalone bit of kit.

The answer is yes then, you can. But in general to limit yourself to just an iPad also limits you to Apple's ecosystem for much of the content. Even the camera connection kit limits what kind of content you can transfer from SD or USB to images and certain types of video.

Considering its a camera connection kit, this seems perfectly reasonable to me?

True. But the fact that they have only produced it to be a camera connection kit kind of supports my point. An iPad can be used as a standalone device but content delivery is a little more limited in some areas than on some competing devices.

I agree with DangerMoose, a universal adapter kid, to plug in loads of different things like a printer, camera, external hard drive would be a lot better but would stop Apple charging customers up the arse for a 5 different cables just to connect the iPad to something lol
