Question about "Ultima Dreadnought"

Hey,

I recently purchased the Ultima Dreadnought ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-132-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat=1270 ) along with a GTX 580; everything was in great condition and had no faults, but the fan seems to be quite loud.

If you also have this system, is it loud for you too? If not, could it be the Corsair H70 fans that are loud?

SpeedFan is reporting the fan to be at ~1520 RPM and I cannot seem to use it to reduce fan speed.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

I have the Corsair A50 which I imagine uses the same fan as your H70, but only had one fan. It was far too loud for me so I replaced it with an Akasa Apache. Much quieter now and the temperatures stayed about the same. You could check which fan is loud by stopping each one in turn by pressing your finger against the centre section of the fans, and listening to the noise difference.

On the back of the 902 are fan speed switches. Try turning them down - it makes a world of difference to noise. And if your temps are stable then you can leave them down.

The Vipers aren't quiet, they run pretty quickly. If you want quiet fans the Apaches are a better bet, though the black ones aren't cheap. There are other ones reported to be very quiet but those are the ones I use and I'm extremely happy with them.

They won't relate to yours since mine is a one fan air cooler and yours is a twin fan water loop, but mid thirties idle and mid sixties under load on an overclocked i5 2500K.

I purchased a Vanquish last year and it probably has the same motherboard the X58a UD3R.

Under PC Heath Options check that CPU Smart Fan Control is "Enabled" and if CPU Smart Fan Mode is on "Auto" change it to "Voltage", as for me the Auto did not work.

For me with the H70 my CPU fans run a full whack at 1500rpm and PC was insanely loud, and it seems OCUK configure all of them this way.

Buy changing it to "Voltage" it should them drop the speed to a more acceptable 1100rpm at idle and it then will increase under load.

Also with the H70 if your temps are high and fans still running very fast check that both fans are actually blowing in the same direction, because after RMAing my PC when it was returned the fans had been put on so they were blowing against each other, and idle temps were 65 degrees !!!
Let me know how you get on

I changed the CPU Smart Fan Mode to "Voltage" as you said, and now the fans are running at ~1100 RPM. The noise has definitely been reduced so thank you for the tip; my idle temperatures are now ~39 degrees.

I went ahead and purchased 2 Apaches as well, and will compare them to the stock fans when they arrive.

Hm, is it normal for OC to remove the frontal fan speed controller "knobs" of my Antec 902 case? Both of them are not there.

(Double post - sorry)

EDIT: I just found out that the front intake fans are by Xigmatek for the green LED, and not the original stock fans - thus there are no fan controllers for it. I've replaced these with Apaches but is there anyway to slow them down?

Sorry for the old thread bump, but I thought it would be more appropriate to post on my old thread rather than create a new one.

Anyway, I have recently updated my BIOS version and it wiped out the existing CMOS profiles in my BIOS - and thus returning the pre-overclocked settings back to default. Is there anyone who has this system and can be kind enough to possibly show me which settings to change for my CPU in order to get the pre-overclocked figures?

Thanks in advanced.

Here are my original setting on the above board, I accept no responsibility for you trashing your system though !!!

On mind now I have reduced CPU Core Volts down from 1.3v to 1.265v and still 100% stable

Good Luck
