I have two iPhone 3GS on contract, both upgraded to v4 and both have received the unlock txt.

My questions are:

can I unlock them via iTunes yet continue to use them on O2?

can I leave them as they are so that a future buyer can unlock on first connection to their iTunes.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You can do whatever you like, whenever you like :).

When I owned my 3GS on contract, I requested O2 unlock the phone for free. When they did, I fired in an Orange SIM straight away to test it, found it worked fine, then swapped back to my contract O2 SIM.

I then sold the phone last week to a friend on Orange, he fired his SIM in, connected to iTunes, job done.

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand iPhone for my sister this week. The person I'm buying the phone off has requested an unlocking text from O2.

How long will it take for the text to come through?

Can I buy the phone now and him just forward me the code and I'll type it in to the phone?

It's just it's her birthday tomorrow so I need to get moving!

They just request an unlock and a short while later you get a txt saying you can activate with another sim. Mine took under 12 hours to come through.
